What Wood Victoria Do? - Interview With Paulus - The Cabaret Geek

It’s hard to believe it has been ten years since the world mourned a legend with the sad passing of Victoria Wood. She may no longer be here herself, but her presence has certainly been felt, with her creations still entertaining audiences through different mediums. Whether it is countless reruns of the iconic Dinnerladies or last year’s concert production of Acorn Antiques in Manchester and the West End, the appetite for Victoria Wood is as strong as ever.

Proof of that is Paulus - The Cabaret Geek, who has spent the last six years keeping Victoria’s legacy alive with his show Looking For Me Friend - The Music Of Victoria Wood. Over the years, he has performed the show all over the UK nearly 200 times, with audiences thrilled for a chance to relive her much loved songs, and the show reaching more than 20,000 audience members over six years of one-night events. There is so much more to Victoria Wood than that show could fit in, however, and now Paulus is back with the long-awaited follow-up, What Wood Victoria Do?

I sat down with Paulus to ask about the new show. Describing it as a “companion piece more than a sequel”, he talks about how he wanted the show to explore all the things that have happened in the ten years since Victoria Wood’s passing that she never got the chance to talk about or have an opinion on, such as air fryers and Stacey Solomon. Throughout the conversation, Paulus talks about the differences between What Wood Victoria Do? And Looking For Me Friend as well as revealing his first encounter with Victoria Wood, and the reception he has had from those who knew Victoria.

What Wood Victoria Do? Kicks off its inaugural tour at the newly named Victoria Wood theatre in Cumbria on September 25th, though there are chances to catch preview performances in July, including a stop in London from July 23rd - 25th
