New Theatre Friday: 7 Brand New Shows To Watch This Weekend

Happy Friday, everybody! We've made it through another week in the never ending year that is 2020. Only 486 weeks to go before 2021!


While it has been a week of sad and tragic news, tonight and this weekend we are spoilt for choice with a wealth of titles available to stream. So choose what you want to watch and recreate the theatre experience for yourself tonight - queue for your own toilet, shush the person next to you for rustling sweets and parade around your own living room holding up a NO PHOTOGRAPHY sign before you press play.



WHAT?

Tonight is the night the incredible Turn Up concert organised by Nicole Raquel Dennis and Ryan Carter debuts. Filmed at Cadogan Hall and featuring 89 of the best talents in the West end including *deep breath* Trevor Dion Nicholas, Layton Williams, Brenda Edwards, Sharon D. Clarke, Alexia Khadime, Aaron Lee Lambert, Danielle Steers and Cedric Neal. That's not even scratching the surface! The event is being held in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and is raising money for The Bail Project, The Okra Project, The Black Curriculum and UK Black Pride.

WHEN?

Tonight (Friday 10th), Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July at 7.30pm.

All concerts are the same, with Sundays show being captioned.

WHERE?

Tickets cost £10 for one ticket or £25 for all 3 nights and are available from club.11.london/turn. You will be emailed the link to watch the show on the day.


WHAT?

It's a double whammy of Joseph tonight starting with this All Star Concert featuring a host of stars from previous productions of the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, including previous Joseph's Darren Day and Jaymi Hensley and narrators Ria Jones and Maria Friedman. Donations are being encouraged for Acting For Others.

The concert debuts tonight (Friday 10th) at 6.30pm

WHAT?

Tonight is a night of many Josephs. It has Darren and Jaymi and Donny and...

After the concert, catch the series finale of the amazing weekly 'The Shows Must Go On' series and there's only one way to end - return to the beginning. This encore performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was filmed in 1999 and stars Donny Osmond as Joseph and Maria Friedman as the Narrator. I didn't review this the first time it was on so look out for my review on here tomorrow... plus something extra on Sunday!

Tonight (Friday 10th) at 7pm. It will be available for 48 hours until Sunday 12th at 7pm. After that there is a month break before The Shows Must Go On returns with new titles.

WHERE?


WHAT?

Not theatre technically but close enough. Today sees the first three episodes of the new TV series Little Voice debut. Fresh from closing the West end version of her show Waitress, Sara Bareilles is on hand executive producing the show, which explores the universal journey of finding your authentic voice in your early 20s. Bareilles has also written music for the show including the theme song to the show, named after her second album.

WHAT?

You've watched Hamilton, you've watched it again... and again and again and again. Now it's time to mix it up a bit... with a Hamilton related show. Entitled Hamilton: History Has Its Eyes On You, the show features interviews with the cast and creators of the show including Lin Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr and Phillipa Soo - the woman responsible for breaking a million hearts last week.

WHEN?

It is available as we speak. What are you waiting for?

On Disney+ of course.


WHAT?

Postponed from its planned arrival last month, the Lincoln Centre production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel finally appears online tonight. Starring Kelli O'Hara and Jessie Mueller, this forms part of the Lincoln Centres Broadway Fridays series.

WHEN?

It launches tonight at 8pm ET which will be 1am in the UK. It will be available online for 60 days after that.

WHAT?

If you're still gutted about Bernadette Peters cancelling her UK tour last year, you can take comfort in one of her concerts being streamed for us to enjoy. Filmed in 2009 at Broadways Minskoff Theatre, the concert is being streamed with a watch party hosted by Michael Urie and featuring Bernadette herself. Expect songs from Sunday In The Park With George, Follies and Into The Woods.

The watch party goes out tonight at 8pm ET (1am in the UK)
