Details for the forthcoming movie of the Broadway musical The Prom have been unveiled.
Directed by Ryan Murphy, the adaptation lands on Netflix on December 11th, boasting an all star cast:
Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Andrew Rannells, Ariana Debose and Kerry Washington are some of the incredible talents making up the cast. Oh... and James Corden is in it too.
The musical premiered on Broadway in October 2018 but, despite winning a legion of fans and rave reviews, closed in August 2019. It tells the story of four Broadway actors lamenting their days of fame as they travel to Indiana to help a lesbian student banned from bringing her girlfriend to high school prom.
Take a look at a number from the musical here:
It will be the second major Broadway adaptation to debut on Netflix in the coming months. Ryan Murphy has also produced the forthcoming adaptation of The Boys In The Band, also starring Andrew Rannells alongside Jim Parsons and Zachary Quinto which is due to premiere on the streaming site on September 30th.
It looks like we have a lot to be excited for in the coming months. The Prom was top of my wishlist to see on Broadway but it closed before I got the chance. I was hoping for a West end transfer but at least this way we can all get to see it and find out why it is so loved!
