The Last Five Years Returning To Southwark Playhouse

Updated: Sep 1, 2020

Last week a new production of The Last Five Years was announced for the Minack Theatre in Cornwall. Today, the recent London production at Southwark Playhouse announces a return to the venue.

The Southwark Playhouse production of the Jason Robert Brown classic originally had a limited run in February this year before being cut short due to the pandemic. The production had the two cast members playing the piano during their songs.

The show tells the story of Jamie and Cathy and the history of their relationship over the span of five years. However, it is told from the end of the story backwards through Cathy and from the beginning to the end through Jamie. The pair only meet once in the middle making it the perfect show for social distancing. It has been a popular choice of show this year. As well as two runs at Southwark Playhouse at the Minack, an online version was released during lockdown.

Jonathan O'Boyle will direct the production and will feature socially distanced cast and audience members with the venue itself reducing the capacity of seats.

The cast consists of Molly Lynch and Oli Higginson, returning to the roles of Cathy and Jamie they played in the run earlier this year.

The show runs from 1st to 31st October. Tickets are available from southwarkplayhouse.co.uk. I've got my tickets already. Can't wait to see this stunning production again.
