The Best Theatre To Catch Over The Next 7 Days

It's another big week for new theatre with some exciting shows and concerts streaming online and the first theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue re-opening since the pandemic. Here is a run down of the best stagey content over the next 7 days:


IN PERSON

WHAT?

Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic Sunset Boulevard has two concert productions taking place this side of Christmas. The first is in London for two exclusive concerts. The show stars Mazz Murray as Norma Desmond.

WHEN?

Catch it on Sunday 25th October at 3pm and 6.30pm

WHERE?

WHAT?

It's been a busy few weeks for Nimax Theatres who have announced a host of shows taking residency in their six London theatres. The first show opens this week and is a limited run of Adam Kay's This Is Going To Hurt, based on his phenomenally successful book of the same name.

WHEN?

The show opens on Thursday 22nd October, playing until Sunday 8th November.

WHERE?

It is playing the Apollo theatre, making it the first venue on Shaftesbury avenue to reopen though it will be joined by several others in the next few weeks. Tickets are on sale from nimaxtheatres.com


WHAT?

Following sold out runs of Fanny & Stella and Pippin, the next show to take place at the brand new Garden Theatre has been announced as Next Thing You Know. The show has been hailed as the Rent for this generation” and follows four New Yorkers. It stars Anelia Atherton, Bessy Ewa, Calum Henderson and Nathan Shaw.

Performances begin on Tuesday 20th October

WHAT?

Now. Here. This. is a show searching for the answers to life’s big questions by exploring the birds, bees, reptiles, trees, dinosaurs, illiteracy, hoarding, middle school, first love, fashion, and much, much more. From the creators of [title of show] this is the UK's professional premiere of the show. WHEN? The show begins a tour of London venues this week beginning on Tuesday 20th October.

WHERE?

The first venue is the Golden Goose in Vauxhall before moving to Chiswick and Kingston in the coming weeks. Tickets are on sale from https://www.nowherethisuk.com

WHAT?

West End Musical Drive In continue their series this week with the penultimate show. This one features Aimie Atkinson, Emma Kingston and T'Shan Williams. With their vast credits in theatre you can expect songs from Six, Pretty Woman and The Color Purple.

The concert is on Saturday 24th October at 2.30pm

WHAT?

The Crazy Coqs at Zedel continue putting on shows from the West Ends finest to a reduced capacity with just 42 seats available for wach performance. Highlights this week include Scott Garnham & Sophie Isaacs in The Crazy Coqs Presents Beyond The Sea, Showstopper's Pippa Evans, Clive Rowe and Steph Parry & Ross Harmon.

Scott Garnham & Sophie Isaacs perform on Monday 19th October, Pippa Evans on the 21st, Clive Rowe on the 22nd and Steph Parry & Ross Harmon on October 25th.

WHAT?

How To Live A Jellicle Life: Life Lessons from the 2019 Hit Movie Musical 'Cats' does what it says on the tin. Starring Linus Karp, find out just how to live a jellicle life with this limited engagement.

WHEN?

It is playing a limited run from Tuesday 20th until Saturday 24th October. Most dates are sold out but there a handful of tickets left for a couple of the shows.

WHAT?

Lambert Jackson Productions continue their winning streak with a massive new show streaming virtually. First Date stars Samantha Barks, ahead of leading the cast of Frozen in London next year. Joining her is Simon Lipkin, Oscar Conlon-Morrey, Nicholas McLean and Danielle Steers. The show was filmed at Zedel earlier this month.

WHEN?

The show will be streaming from October 22nd to 24th at 7.30pm each night.

WHAT?

Seth Rudetsky continues his fabulous concert series this week and this weeks installment is a good one. Star of Waitress and The Greatest Showman scored a global hit with 'This Is Me'. Watch her showcase her incredible talent in this one off concert.

WHEN?

The show is broadcast live at 8pm ET on Sunday 18th October which will be 1am in the UK. Catch a repeat on Monday 19th October at 3pm ET so 8pm in the UK.

The Theatre Cafe continue their Night Cap series this week with the star of Pretty Woman and Six, Aimie Atkinson. Watch her talk about her career with Paul Taylor-Mills and to sing songs that inspire her.

WHAT?

This weeks title in the weekly The Shows Must Go On series is the stage version of Jeff Wayne's The War Of The Worlds. Filmed in 2012 it features Kerry Ellis, Marti Pellow and Jason Donovan as well as Liam Neeson on the big screen.

Catch it on Friday 23rd October at 7pm for 48 hours only.

WHAT?

The series of Tonight At The London Coliseum concludes this week with a performance from theatre legend Ramin Karimloo. Known for roles including The Phantom of the Opera, Love Never Dies and Les Miserables, catch Ramin showcase his immeasurable talent.

In The Wings continues its series showcasing new musicals with Plan Bea by Suzy Davies, Verity Quade, Jessie Reeves, Rosie McElroy and Deborah Gersohn. It is about navigating the ups and downs that life throws at us. Set between the present day and the 90s, the show was due to showcase at the Turbine Theatre in April.
