Steps Musical 'One For Sorrow' In Development

A new musical telling the story about Princess Diana to the music of Steps is in development, it has been announced.

Yes, you read that right.

Titled One For Sorrow after one of Steps' biggest hits, the show is the brainchild of George Alexander whose G.A productions is behind the show.

It may seem like an odd pairing but did anyone think that the story of Romeo & Juliet if she didn't die at the end to a soundtrack of Britney, Katy Perry and Backstreet Boys would be anywhere near as amazing as it is? With a catalogue of songs including 'Deeper Shade of Blue', 'After The Love Has Gone' and 'Heartbeat', this has the potential to be just as brilliant. George has already confirmed 'Tragedy' will not be used in a tasteless context as several people theorised when this was announced.

The musical is in the earlier stages of development but after the initial announcement yesterday, social media went wild and the response has been truly astounding. Who knew so many musical theatre fans were also massive fans of Steps? (See you all at the next tour). The hope is that this will be ready to be performed at fringe theatre in 2021. It will be a tragedy if it isn't ready for then.

This also follows the recent Diana musical on Broadway which is due to be shown on Netflix early next year. Another musical about the late Princess, Call Me Diana, was also in development with a showcase in London last year.

For all updates on the show, follow twitter.com/sorrowmusical. I for one will be keeping an eye on the development of this, ready to be there in my neon finest on opening night. I think we can all agree after 2020, a Steps musical could be just the thing we all need.
