A new London production of Spring Awakening has been rumoured for some time - but today the news has been confirmed.
The revival will be staged at the Almeida Theatre this Christmas with exact dates to be confirmed imminently.
The production will star Laurie Kynaston and Amara Okereke as will as provide roles for new Graduates who have found themselves in an industry with less opportunities than usual.
Spring Awakening will be directed by the Almeida Theatre's artistic director Rupert Goold. The musical by Duncan Sheik and Steven Slater was last seen in the West End in 2009 where it played a four month run at both the Lyric Hammersmith before transferring to the Novello Theatre. Since first appearing on Broadway in 2006, it has been revived on both sides of the Atlantic and is commonly seen in amateur productions but has yet to return to a London theatre until now.
Goold will also oversee a new feminist version of Macbeth starring four-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan making her UK stage debut,
I'll update this with more information as it comes through.
