October Preview: 40 Shows To Treat Yourself To This Month

As the nights get darker and spooky season takes over, October looks set to be bursting with some hugely exciting new shows in the West End and all over the UK. Here are 40 of the most exciting to treat yourself to this month:

 

GHOST IN CONCERT (Adelphi Theatre)

 


1st October

 

The hauntingly beautiful musical returns to the West End for one night only with a cast led by Lucie Jones and Oliver Tompsett as Molly and Sam joined by former cast members Moya Angela, Lisa Davina Phillip and Jenny Fitzpatrick.

 

 

WHITE RABBIT RED RABBIT (@SohoPlace)



1st October – 9th November

 

Making its West End debut, this unique show challenges a fearless performer to take centre stage with no preparation, no director and only a sealed envelope containing a script. Different performers include Olly Alexander, Paloma Faith, Catherine Tate, Ryan Calais Cameron, Stockard Channing and Daisy Edgar Jones.

MACBETH (Harold Pinter Theatre)



1st October - 14th December


Following a sold out run at Donmar Warehouse last year, David Tennant and Cush Jumbo return to this new adaptation of ghe Shakeapeare classic for a limited West End run.


 

ONE OF THE BOYS (Playground Theatre)



1st – 27th October

 

Written by Tim Edge, this play offers a sharp commentary on corporate sexism and the compromises many women feel compelled to make to compete equally with men in the workplace.

 

 

THE RIVER (Greenwich Theatre)



1st – 27th October

 

The first major London revival of Jez Butterworth’s play stars Paul McGann, Kerri McLean and Amanda Ryan

 

 

FOREVERLAND (Southwark Playhouse Borough) 



2nd – 19th October

 

This new play asks what happens if we “cure death” imaging a near future in which immortality has become possible for the privileged elite, adding a new and intriguing layer to the concept of the ‘haves and the have nots’

 

 

BECOMING NANCY (Birmingham Rep)



2nd October – 2nd November

 

The UK premiere of a new musical directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell is a coming-of-age story about first love, friendship, and finding your voice, based on the novel by Terry Ronald. The cast includes Joseph peacock, Paige Peddie and Rebecca Trehearn.

 

 

EURYDICE (Jermyn Street Theatre)



3rd October – 9th November

 

Sarah Ruhl’s reworking of the classic Greek myth directed by the theatre’s Artistic Director Stella Powell-Jones asks the question will love triumph over death?

 

 

BRACE BRACE (Royal Court)



3rd October – 9th November

 

A gripping story of the people we become in the aftermath of catastrophe, Phil Dunster, Craige Els and Anjana Vasan star in Oli Forsyth’s play following the hijack of a plane.

David Edgar’s fiercely topical new play explores  the battle between mainstream politics and a new national-populist Right.

4th October – 30th November


The inaugural production in Tim Sheader’s first season as Artistic Director at the Donmar stars Adrien Brody making his London theatre debut alongside Nana Mensah in the extraordinary true story of Nick Yarris who spent 22 years of Death Row after a routine traffic stop turned into a conviction for murder.

 

 

WHAT WE TALK ABOUT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT ANNE FRANK (Marylebone Theatre)



4th October – 23rd November

 

A new serious comedy by Nathan Englander, based on his acclaimed 2011 short story stars Joshua Malina as it asks the question “Who in your life would you trust to keep you alive? And who do you know who would risk their own life  for yours?”

 

 

OEDIPUS (Wyndham’s Theatre)

 



4th October – 4th January 2025

 

Mark Strong and Lesley Manville star in Robert Icke’s new adaptation after Sophocles reimaging the Ancient Greek tragedy, bringing the secrets of the past bursting into the present.

The world premiere of Richard Bean’s new play is set in freezing weather off the coast of Iceland in 1975 for an evening of drinking, horseplay, romance and story-telling that will change all the characters lives forever.

There are so many great shows to look forward to this October! It’s awesome to see such a variety of genres and options, perfect for cozy nights in. From dramas to comedies, there’s definitely something for everyone this month. I recently got a bet email about their latest shows, and now I’m adding a few of these to my watchlist too. October really is the perfect time to binge-watch some new favorites!
