Mean Girls To Close On Broadway But Prepares For A West End Production

Some news tonight that is most definitely not fetch as the musical production of Mean Girls has become the latest casualty of the pandemic, announcing it will not be re-opening on Broadway when performances can eventually resume.

Based on the classic movie, the musical by Tina Fey debuted on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre in March 2018 where it played 833 performances until the pandemic forced it so shut their doors in March 2020.

The show will live on in America with a Narional tour hoping to resume this summer. A West End transfer has long been rumoured but has yet to be confirmed. Perhaps this is a show that will make its way over here when theatres do re-open at full capacity.

The show follows the announcement last year that the Broadway production or Frozen will not return when theatres do, meaning there will be two major holes on Broadway when everything does re-open.

Let's hope this is the last major Broadway casualty and all other current productions are able to re-open as soon as it is safe to do so later this year.
