It's been one of the last shows to announce details of it's return but today it has been confirmed that the long running and well loved West End production of Matilda will return to its home of the Cambridge Theatre on Thursday 16th September.
This Autumn marks 10 years since the Royal Shakespeare Company's production first opened in the West End. Since then, it has been seen by more than 10 milliion people across more than 90 cities worldwide. Having welcomed almost 4 million audience members in London, Matilda The Musical is the 6th longest running show in the West End and the 16th longest running musical in West End history.
Catherine Mallyon, RSC Executive Director said:
“It is fantastic to see London’s West End re-opening and for our company, freelance
colleagues and creative team to be back at the Cambridge Theatre, preparing for
performances in the autumn. We all know how challenging the past year has been, and
that makes this moment even more special and important. We will not only celebrate 10
brilliant years of Matilda The Musical in the West End, but also that our audiences can
join us once again to experience the power of live theatre.”
Adapted from Roadl Dahl's much loved 1988 book, the show has taken on a life of its own since its premiere in 2010. As well as productions all over the world including Broadway, it has won 99 International awards including 24 for Best Musical. It shows no sign of slowing down as the musical is currently being adapted into a new feature film starring Emma Thompson, Lashana Lynch and Alisha Weird.
Tickets go on sale on Monday 10th May at 10am from matildathemusical.com and will be booking until February 13th 2022.
