We’re into the heart of summer now and while July may be a bit of a quieter month, there is no shortage of gems to look out for. As well as one-night-only concerts and a smattering of new West End openings, there are some especially great regional offerings this month including a couple of shows you’ll see in the West End later this year. I WISH MY LIFE WERE LIKE A MUSICAL (UK Tour)
2nd July – 31st August
The revue about the trials and tribulations of life in showbusiness returns for a new UK tour, revealing all there is to know from people who love it on both sides of the curtain. The tour kicks off in Manchester before heading to London and Cork ahead of its run in Edinburgh next month.

RISHI SUNAK’S DOING A MUSICAL (Waterloo East Theatre)
2nd – 6th July
Written in just a month, this show tells the story of Rishi Sunak trying to win over the electorate by staging a musical about himself - hampered by the writers he’s hired, who are surprisingly unsympathetic to him.

BARNUM (Watermill Theatre)

This year’s spectacular summer musical at The Watermill in Newbury is a new production of the Olivier and Tony award-winning musical starring Matt Rawle, Monique Young and Penny Ashmore.

DORIAN: The Musical (The Other Palace)
4th July – 10th August
Alfie Friedman stars in the titular role of this modern musical retelling of Oscar Wilde’s classic novel. A fully 21st-century production of the Victorian classic incorporating rock music and social media while remaining true to the bohemian thrill of the original.

THE CHILDREN’S INQUIRY (Southwark Playhouse Elephant)
5th July – 3rd August
A new verbatim musical examining childcare in the UK from the point of view of four teenagers with all the lyrics composed from interviews with those who have experienced the system.

CHARIOTS OF FIRE (Sheffield Crucible)
6th – 27th July
Mike Bartlett adapts the Oscar-winning film based on the remarkable events of the 1924 events, marking the 100th anniversary of the true stories of Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams and their record-breaking achievements.

HELLO DOLLY! (London Palladium)
6th July – 13th September
Imelda Staunton stars as meddlesome socialite turned matchmaker Dolly Levi in this highly anticipated revival of this musical featuring Jerry Herman’s unforgettable score, also starring Andy Nyman, Jenna Russell, Tyrone Huntley, Harry Hepple and Emily Lane.

THE BAKER’S WIFE (Menier Chocolate Factory)
