It's the must see theatre event of the summer, mainly cos it's one of the only theatre events of the summer, but initial casting for the concert version of Jesus Christ Superstar at Regents Park Open Air Theatre has been announced and a reunion for the 2016 cast is on the cards.
Declan Bennett and Pepe Nufrio will share the role of Jesus. Bennett played the role in the original Open Air Theatre production of the show.
Tyrone Huntley and Ricardo Afonso will share the role of Judas. Both have played the role in the Open Air Theatre production before, with Tyrone being nominated for an Olivier for his portrayal of the role, and Ricardo playing the role at the Barbican last year.
Anoushka Lucas and Maimuma Memon will share the role of Mary. Anoushka played the role in the 2016 production.
David Thaxton will play the role of Pilate, Shaq Taylor will play Herod, Ivan De Freitas will play Caiaphas, Nathan Amzi will play Annas, Phil King will play Peter and, fresh from blowing us all away in Songs For A New World, Turn Up and Hello Harry, Cedric Neal will be joining the cast as Simon.
Genesis Lynea, Rosa O'Reilly and Elliote Williams N'Dure will join the cast as the Soul Sisters. The cast is completed by Daniel Bailey, Dale Evans, Rosie Fletcher, Josh Hawkins, Stevie Hutchinson, Billy Nevers, Charlotte Riby, Tinovimbanashe Sibanda, Barnaby Thompson and Tara Young.

I was already excited about seeing this show but after this casting, I'm even more so. Can't wait to see this next month!
