Frozen was one of Disney's biggest movies in decades and the inevitable musical adaptation was a smash hit on Broadway. The West End run was due to open in October 2020 but got pushed back until April 2021 due to the pandemic. Sadly, it is no longer able to open in April so has been delayed until further notice.
Set to re-open the refurbished Theatre Royal Drury Lane, an email has gone out to ticket holders advising them that tickets are now off sale for the West End run until further notice due to the current national lockdown.
No new date has been set as yet but it is hoped it won't be too much longer. The other big musical due to open in April is Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cinderella. He has said in recent weeks that he still hopes it will open on time but if it is needed to be delayed, he expects it to only be by a matter of weeks.
If you have tickets for Frozen you don't need to do anything for now. You will be contacted with revised performance dates. This will be done in chronological order so customers who booked for the first performances will be the first to be contacted with details of their new date.
The statement posted on their social media reads as follows:
While the news of further delays is devastating for us all, it is important to note that restrictions are expected to be eased fairly quickly after the lockdown ends as more people receive the vaccine. Nothing is certain at the moment, but with most of the major West End theatres hoping to re-open without social distancing in May, there is still hope we can see Frozen premiere in the not too distant future.
I saw Frozen on Broadway and can say with certainty that, whenever it does open, it will be worth the wait. Featuring a stellar cast including Samantha Barks as Elsa, Stephanie as Hans, this is going to be sensational when we can all finally see its magic on stage.
For now, here is Samantha Barks performing 'Let It Go' at the Royal Variety Performance last year.
