February Preview: 50 Shows To Stream This Month

January has come and gone with all its 400 days and a new month is upon us. The shortest month of the year doesn't mean it has any less brand new theatre to enjoy. In fact, there is a lot more to enjoy over the next month than we had in January. While theatres up and down the country are still sadly closed, check a whopping 50 brand new shows and returning favourites to enjoy over the next four weeks:


Now - Thursday 11th February: FIVER

Southwark Playhouse are streaming three of their recent live shows for a limited time. First up is the concert production of Fiver, filmed live at the venue. Tickets are from southwarkplayhouse.co.uk


Now - Thursday 11th February: BEFORE/AFTER

The second of three shows returning for an encore stream is this beautiful musical starring real life husband and wife Rosalie Craig and Hadley Fraser. Tickets from southwarkplayhouse.co.uk


Now - Thursday 11th February: STAY AWAKE, JAKE

Tim Gilvin’s one-act musical tells the story of one man’s journey across England’s deserted motorways in the middle of the night. Filmed at Southwark Playhouse, it can be streamed from southwarkplayhouse.co.uk


Now - Sunday 14th February: THE LAST FIVE YEARS

Another chance to see this incredible production of Jason Robert Browns The Last Five Years starring Molly Lynch and Oli Higginson. Filmed live at Southwark Playhouse, this was one of my theatre highlights of 2020. Tickets from https://stream.theatre


Now - Monday 22nd February: DICK WHITTINGTON

The recent panto from National Theatre is still available to stream as part of their at home subscription service online. Other shows available on the platform include Amadeus, Three Sisters and Othello. Stream it from https://www.ntathome.com


Now - Sunday 28th February: THE POLTERGEIST

Phillip Ridley's darkly comic new play is about art, family, memory, and being haunted by the life we never lived. Filmed at the Southwark Playhouse last year, now is another chance to see this acclaimed piece. Tickets from https://stream.theatre


Now - TBC: A TALE TO TELL

Panto season may officially be over (Oh no it isn't!) but you can still catch this fun all-star production of all your favourite characters for free online. With a cast including Alice Fearn, Aston Merrygold and Tom Lister this is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Watch here


Monday 1st February: JEREMY JORDAN & ASHLEY SPENCER

Make a date in your diaries every Sunday night and Monday afternoon as Seth Rudetsky has been bringing us some huge Broadway stars for the best part of a year now. A month of great guests begins with returning favourite and star of Smash and Newsies Jeremy Jordan, this time around he is joined by his wife Ashley Spencer.

Each show takes place on the Sunday at 8pm ET which is 1am in the UK and is repeated on the Monday at 3pm ET which is 8pm in the UK .


Monday 1st - Sunday 14th February: LITTLE WARS Another chance to see an all-female cast gather for this touching drama about the power of coming together for a shared cause as the threat of World War II looms. Starring Linda Bassett and Juliet Stevenson, this can be streamed for two weeks from https://www.stream.theatre

Monday 1st - Sunday 14th February: FALLING STARS Peter Polycarpou writes and stars in this brand new song cycle. Joined by West End and Broadway star Sally Ann Triplett, this is an homage to the composers of the 1920s. Expect songs from Charlie Chaplin and Irving Berlin among others. Tuesday 2nd February: SIGNAL ONLINE

Adam Lenson Productions, who recently treated us to fantastic streams including Public Domain now bring us a global, multi-location, livestream of songs from brand new musicals. Streaming from 7.30pm, be the first to witness the stars of tomorrow.


Tuesday 2nd February - Friday 26th March: SIMPLY SONDHEIM

Get ready to celebrate all things Sondheim as the legendary composer and lyricist is the subject of this brand nrw concert. Expect classics such as 'Losing My Mind' and 'Finishing The Hat' performed by a 16-piece orchestra. Performers include Norm Lewis, Solea Pfeiffer and Emily Skinner. Friday 5th - Sunday 21st February: MISCHIEF MOVIE NIGHT IN

The Mischief Comedy Team are back for 11 more livestreams in February where every night is a premiere. The virtual audience suggest the setting and title of a new movie and watch it unfold before their eyes. This months offerings include a special Valentines romcom on the 14th and a special double livestream on the 7th where the evening show is a sequel to whatever is created that afternoon. Friday 5th - Sunday 28th February: SHOOK

A filmed production of the 2019 Papatango New Writing Prize-winner Shook is heading online this month. Originally due to transfer to the West End, the play looks at three young offenders who are due to become fathers while incarcerated in a show that promises to be both funny and poignant. Sunday 7th February: SUNDAY NIGHT AT THE THEATRE CAFE

The Theatre Cafe are kicking off a brand new series celebrating the performance Arts industry. Each evening features performances from musical theatre stars, pop singers and variety acts as well as interviews with people in all fields of the industry, Available on all their social media platforms, the stream is completely free,


Sunday 7th - Monday 8th February: CHRISTY ALTOMARE

Seth Rudetsky's concert series continues with the Broadway star of Mamma Mia and Anastasia, Christy Altomare. The show streams live on Sunday at 8pm ET which is 1am in the UK and is repeated on the Monday at 3pm ET which is 8pm in the UK .


Sunday 7th February: MUSICALS - THE GREATEST SHOW

A stellar lineup of West End and Broadway stars gather for performances filmed at the London Palladium and internationally. An extended version of the show is first broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on Sunday 31st January but an edited highlights programme makes its way to BBC One and iPlayer a week later.

Wednesday 10th February: IN CONVERSATION WITH THE COLOR PURPLE

Dominic Powell has a conversation with the cast of the current production of The Color Purple at Curve Leicester. Completely free, view it at thespie.com


Thursday 11th February: MILLIE O'CONNELL

As part of their informal chat Thespie Thursday series, Aimie Atkinson chats to Six star Millie O'Connell. Available for free at thespie.com


Thursday 11th February: BIRDY'S CABARET

An evening of performances raising money to help end the stigma towards homelessness. Featuring performances from Tanisha Mae Brown, Harry Lambert and Emily Lane among others. Go to twitter.com/birdysgift for tickets.


Friday 12th - Sunday 14th February: GATSBY: A MUSICAL

The classic novel The Great Gatsby gets a musical adaptation filmed at Cadogan Hall. Starring Ross William Wild, Charlotte Wakefield, Blake Patrick Anderson and Emma Williams, as well as the normal stream there is also VIP access which takes you backstage with the cast. Friday 12th - Sunday 21st February: DADDY LONG LEGS

An archive recording of the 2019 Barn Theatre musical will stream online for a limited time. Starring Ryan Bennett and Rebecca Jayne-Davies, it tells the story of an orphan and her mysterious benefactor who agrees to send her to college. Tickets from http://barntheatre.org.uk/barn-at-home


Friday 12th - Sunday 14th February: LUCIE JONES & DAVID HUNTER

The Waitress co-stars teamed up for their first joint concert together in August. There are now three more chances to stream this gig which featured songs from their careers, hilarious and moving stories, a lot of banter and an incredible duet of 'She UsedTo Be Mine'. Saturday 13th February: SEVEN SELF-LOVE CLUB

Saturday 13th - Saturday 27th February: ROMEO + JULIET

Saturday 13th - Saturday 20th February: ROULETTE

Game show 'Love Roulette' is revived for this interactive online play where the audience moves the play along based on your pairings. This comedy is made for inclusivity and is completely free to watch. Choose your date and get a ticket here


Sunday 14th February: STUPID WITH LOVE

Sunday 14th Feb: SEXTON & FOWLER - VISION OF YOU VALENTINES DAY CONCERT

Sharon Sexton and Rob Fowler are always magic when performing together. Monday 15th - Wednesday 17th February: ILLUSIONS OF LIBERTY

Monday 15th February - Thursday 15th April: GOOD GRIEF

Sian Clifford and Nikesh Patel star in the global online premiere of this new romatic comedy about grief. Rehearsed on zoom and filmed in a studio adhering to Covid protocols, it streams for two months with tickets from https://www.atgtickets.com


Monday 15th - Sunday 21st February: ANNA KARENINA

A musical adaptation of the Tolstoy classic. This tells the story of an unhappily married woman meeting someone that tragically leads to her downfall. Performed in Russian with English subtitles, it is vailableto stream on https://www.stream.theatre


Tuesday 16th February: BLACK MATTER

A new song cycle by Hamilton star Giles Terera consisting of songs he wrote from what he saw from his home in Soho last summer focusing on the experiences he witnessed such as police brutality and homelessness. Tuesday 16th - Sunday 21st February: ALL ON HER OWN

Terrence Rattigan's one-woman play tells the story of Rosemary who shares her heartbreaking and sinister secret burden. Starring Olivier award winner Janie Dee, this 30 minute play is one to chck out this month. Tickets at https://www.stream.theatre


Tuesday 16th February - Sunday 7th March: THE COLOR PURPLE

Following their groundbreaking production of Sunset Boulecard, Curve Leicester return with some more magic in this new streaming production of The Color Purple. Thursday 18th - Saturday 20th February: OUTSIDE

The world premiere of a new play written and performed by Gabrielle MacPherson, Outside tells the story of a woman who hasn't ever left her house until now when she finds herself in a witness questioning suite, searching for evidence of her existence. Thursday 18th Feb - Saturday 31st July: BARNES' PEOPLE FOUR MONOLOGUES

Friday 19th February: THE THEATRE CHANNEL - THE CLASSICS OF BROADWAY

The fifth episode of The Theatre Channel focuses on Broadway classics with Freddie Fox, Mazz Murray, Marisha Wallace, Bonnie Langford and Gary Wilmot all on hand to tackle songs from Cabaret, Anything Goes, West Side Story, Gypsy and Guys and Dolls. Tickets from thetheatrecafe.co.uk/channel


Friday 19th February: BREAK FREE

Thespie bring us the first of two concerts this month. This one is a celebration of LGBTQ+ theatre artists and features Layton Williams, Millie O'Connell and Alex Thomas Smith. Tickets from thespie.com


Friday 19th - Sunday 21st February: NICOLE RAQUEL DENNIS & SAM TUTTY

The Dear Evan Hansen co-stars joined forces in September for a brilliant concert featuring an eclectuic mix of songs from theatre and beyond. You now have more chances to catch this brilliant pair at their best. Tickets from https://www.stream.theatre


Saturday 20th - Sunday 28th February: RICE!

Performed live from both Malaysia and the UK, this is a story of migration and the delicate existence of life between two culture. An immersive show via zoom, audiences have the option to have food ingredients delivered to them pre-show. Tickets from omnibus-clapham.org


Sunday 21st - Sunday 28th February: SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD

The 2020 virtual production starring Rachel Tucker, Rachel John, Cedric Neal and Ramin Karimloo returns for an encore run. Premiering on the 21st, it is then available on demand for a week from https://stream.theatre


Sunday 21st - Monday 22nd February: SANTINO FONTANA

Monday 22nd - Sunday 28th February: XCALIBUR

This blockbuster musical telling the story of King Arthur features a cast of 70, epic sets and a 28 piece orchestra. Performed in Korean with English subtitles, tickets are from https://www.stream.theatre

Tuesday 23rd February: CLASSIC THEATRE ON DISNEY+

Disney+ are adding hundreds of titles to its streaming service today as part of its new "Star" brand. Theatre titles being added today include Baz Luhrmann's 1996 movie Romeo + Juliet and his 2001 movie Moulin Rouge, the film versions of 9 to 5, Pretty Woman and Waitress as well as the film version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita starring Madonna. Of course, the filmed production of Hamilton is still there to stream on demand as are a number of other musical titles such as Newsies.


Wednesday 24th February: TYPICAL

The film version of the hit stage play receives its world premiere on Soho Theatre on demand. Starring Richard Blackwood, this is a powerful exploration of racism and how British society stereotypes Black masculinity. Tickets from https://sohotheatreondemand.com/show/typical


Friday 26th February - Sunday 14th March: THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE

This enchanting new British musical explores the extraordinary world of a sorcerer and his rebellious daughter, as she discovers the explosive possibilities of her newfound magical powers. Friday 26th February: THE ROAD TO PROMINENCE

The second Thespie concert this month celebrates Black musical theatre creators and features Zoe Birkett, Waylon Jacobs and Aisha Jawando. Tickets from thespie.com


Friday 26th - Sunday 28th February: WEST END MUSICAL DRIVE IN

The first of the West End Musical Drive In concerts from last year to stream online. This one stars Grace Mouat, Natalie May Paris, Sophie Isaacs and Courtney Bowman among others. Tickets from https://stream.theatre


Saturday 27th February - Saturday 13th March: REDEMPTION ROOM

Get ready for a new live online experience where the audience get to judge 6 disgraced celebrities as they seek redemption for their societal crimes which takes a surprising turn when an evil entity is awakened into the proceedings. February TBC: THE SHOWS MUST GO ON

The weekly streaming series on YouTube is taking a short break but has promised to return in February with new titles.


We may all be locked in our homes for another month but at least we have plenty of amazing theatre to keep us going. Hopefully March will see the welcome re-opening of theatres around the country.
