Curve Leicester To Stream 'The Color Purple' Online

Updated: Jan 22, 2021

Following the phenomenal success of their online concert of Sunset Boulevard (still the best stream I've ever seen), Curve Leicester have announced details of the next show in their continued quest to bring incredible theatre to the masses and save all of us in lockdown from boredom.

The Color Purple was due to run late last year at the theatre in Leicester and was pushed back to March. That production has now sadly been cancelled so the show is instead being moved online in what is sure to be as well received a production as Sunset.

The Color Purple – at Home will be a fully reimagined concert version of the 2019 production, co-produced by Curve and Birmingham Hippodrome. It will star T'Shan Williams as Celie, Danielle Fiamanya as Nettie and Carly Mercedes Dyer as Shug. Also appearing in this production are Karen Mavundukure, Ako Mitchell and Simon Anthony Rhoden.

Based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, the musical will once again be directed by Tinuke Craig, alongside Musical Director Alex Parker, Designer Alex Lowde, Choreographer Mark Smith, Sound Designer Tom Marshall and Casting Director Kay Magson CDG. The production will be lit by Curve Associate Ben Cracknell.

Curve’s Chief Executive Chris Stafford and Artistic Director Nikolai Foster said:

“After the phenomenal response to Sunset Boulevard, we are thrilled to present a special streamed version of The Color Purple for audiences across the UK and Ireland to enjoy at home. Reuniting our incredible 2019 company, Tinuke Craig’s production filled with hope and resilience, is sure to lift the spirits of all of us in these challenging times.”

“Connecting with our communities has never felt more important and alongside this production, there will be a series of talks, educational events and interactive projects. We are also proud to make free tickets available to thank our astonishing NHS workers and their families."

The production will stream from Tuesday 16th February - Sunday 7th March. 2000 free tickets are being made available during the run for NHS staff.

Tickets are available now from priced at £20 per hoiusehold. The stream is only available to audiences in the UK and Ireland. A range of accessible performances including captioned and audio described will be on offer during the run.
