The new school year may have only just started, but the first half term will be around faster than you can say “Pumpkin spice latte”. If you’re looking for something to do to occupy the kids during the October half term, Stratford East has you covered with Surinderella.
Brought to you by Rifco, the company behind Britain’s Got Bhangra, The Deranged Marriage and Pyar Actually, Surinderella is back by popular demand, following a well-received, five-star run at Riverside Studios last year. Expect an evening of laughter, romance and larger-than-life entertainment for the whole family with a rather unique take on the classic pantomime story.
Surinderella focuses on Surinder - sweet, strong and stuck in a never-ending chore list thanks to her two Insta-fame obsessed stepsisters, Lovely and Bubbly. Her only real support is Basanti, a cow with the dance skills of a Bollywood superstar. Elsewhere, Prince Kavi is being pressured by his royal family to marry. When he bumps into Surinder, sparks fly.
Of course, this wouldn’t be a take on the classic fairytale without a fairy Godmother, and Surinderella brings a Devi Godmother, played by Harpz Kaur (Saturday Mashup, CBBC). Expect her to arrive in flam mode with magic, makeovers and masala moves.
You may think you know the story, but you won’t have seen it quite like this before. Suitable for ages 5 and up, you can catch Surinderella at Stratford East from 20th - 31st October, with extra matinee performances from 28th October.
