7 Shows In 7 Days: The Best Of This Weeks Theatre

Another week bringing a barrage of new theatre for us to binge on! This week features new show openings, new online streams and concerts both in person and virtually. Here's a round up of 7 shows to feast on over the next 7 days:

IN PERSON

WHAT?

Following the sold out success of its debut show Fanny & Stella, the brand new Garden Theatre is playing host to a new production of Stephen Schwartz's Pippin. The show tells the story of a young Prince on his search for meaning and significance. This version has been revised featuring a reduced cast and has the story told by a group of hippy travellers.

WHEN?

The show kicks off its run on Tuesday 8th September. Tickets have sold so fast, the show has been extended twice and is now set to run until Sunday 11th October.

WHAT?

Following their highly successful outdoor festival BarnFest, the Barn Theatre is opening its doors for its first indoor production. Private Peaceful relives the life of Private Tommo Peaceful, a young First World War soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn. During the night, he looks back at his short but joyful past growing up in rural Devon: his exciting first days at school; the accident in the forest that killed his father; his adventures with Molly, the love of his life; and the battles and injustices of war that brought him to the front line.

WHEN?

Private Peaceful opens on Thursday 10th September and runs until Sunday 27th September.

WHERE?

WHAT?

The Turbine Theatre is continuing its brilliant season of shows located on the Jetty this week with some more fantastic performances. Highlights this week are The Final Countdown on Tuesday 8th September - a concert featuring some of the best pop and rock songs from the 1980s; Vivienne De Vil in 'With One Look' celebrating some of the best women in musical theatre on Friday September 11th; and a special Roles We'll Never Play concert on Sunday 13th September.

WHEN?

The shows take place throughout the week, with the season coming to a close on Sunday 19th September.

WHERE?

WHAT?

The Bridge Theatre reopened last month with a season of socially distanced performances with one person plays. This week sees the beginning of a series of Alan Bennett's Talking Heads series, starting with Monica Dolan and Lesley Manville in the double play The Shrine & Bed Among The Lentils.

WHEN?

The first play is running from Tuesday 7th September until Wednesday 22nd September.

WHERE?

WHAT?

The Crazy Coqs at Zedel have reopened their doors with social distancing in place and a whole lot of musical theatre stars. This week sees two of the very best with performances from Cedric Neal and Janie Dee. Cedric is the star of Jesus Christ Superstar, Back To The Future and Motown and will be bringing 'Songversations of a Black Man' to the venue, speaking through songs by black male composers, writers and artists.

Janie Dee, brings a personal new solo show to the venue, drawing on a a broad repertoire of jazz, musical and classical songs.

WHEN?

Cedric Neal is performing on Monday 7th September at 7pm and 9.30pm with Janie Dee on Tuesday 8th, Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th September at 9.30pm.

WHERE?

Zedel is located just a stones through from Piccadilly Circus. You can buy tickets to watch the action in person or each show will be being streamed live into your home so you could buy a ticket for that if you prefer. Tickets for both available at https://www.brasseriezedel.com/events/

ONLINE

WHAT?

Martin Sherman's Rose is being streamed as a new production starring Maureen Lipman. The play follows Jewish woman Rose as she begins her life in a 1920s Russian village and goes on to travel the globe. This production is staged by the Hope Mill Theatre who were responsible for the recent online concert of Godspell.

WHEN?

The show will be available to stream on September 10th, 11th and 12th with the link being sent out at 10am on the day of purchase, giving you 24 hours to watch it.

WHERE?

WHAT?

Seth Rudetsky's weekly concert series continues this week with Karen Olivo. Karen's many theatre credits include In The Heights, RENT, Hamilton, West SIde Story and Moulin Rouge so expect a rich variety of music in this concert.

WHEN?

The concert goes out live on Sunday 6th September at 8pm ET which is 1am in the UK and is repeated on Monday 7th September at 3pm ET, 8pm in the UK.
