7 Must See Streams This Week

Updated: Jul 16, 2020

Another week, another batch of new shows to stream. While 'The Shows Must Go On' may be on a short summer break, there is no shortage of new stagey content to watch this week including a variety of concerts and the finale of the National Theatre At Home series. Here are 7 must see titles:

WHO?

Harry Gabriel is an unsung hero in theatre. He has worked at the stage door at the Shaftesbury Theatre for 40 years and is a joy and delight to anyone and everyone who has ever met him (myself included).

WHAT?

The Shaftesbury Theatre are putting on a massive concert in celebration of Harry. Created by Giles Terera, the show features stories and performances from an incredible line up of stars from productions at the theatre over the last 40 years. starting with Hello Dolly and working its way through titles such as Hairspray, Motown, Memphis and up to the current production &Juliet. Some of the names taking part include Dame Judi Dench, Anthony Hopkins, Alexia Khadime, Imelda Staunton, Cassidy Janson, Tyrone Huntley and Beverley Knight.

To whet your appetite, here is a sneak peek of what to expect - a rousing performance of the incredible 'I Know Where I've Been' by Brenda Edwards.

WHEN?

The concert takes place on Wednesday 15th July at 7.30pm and will stay online after.

WHERE?

HOW (Much)?

Tickets are free but donations are encouraged with the show aiming to raise money for three charities chosen by Harry and Giles - Cancer Research UK, Black Lives Matter and The Black Curriculum.

WHAT?

All good things must come to an end so it saddens me to say that this week marks the last title in the incredible National Theatre At Home series. Previous weeks have seen us treated to brilliant productions including A Streetcar Names Desire and Small Island. The final title in the series is Peter Shaffer's iconic play Amadeus featuring accompaniment from Southbak Sinfonia. While this is the last in the At Home series, the likelihood is National Theatre will return with more titles in the future, most likely on a pay per view method as recorded titles such as Follies and War Horse are yet to be broadcast.

WHEN?

You can view it from Thursday 16th July at 7pm for one week only. In the meantime, The Deep Blue Sea is still available to watch.
