10 Shows To Watch Online This Week

There is still no shortage of content being made available to watch online of filmed productions of past musicals and plays - some are available permanently, some are blink and you'll miss them. To simplify it, I've put together a group of shows you can watch at various times this week.


WHAT?

Just announced, this weeks installment of the weekly Shows must go on series is the 2016 live production of Hairspray for NBC in America, starring Kristin Chenoweth, Ariana Grande, Maddie Baillio, Dove Cameron, Martin Short, Harver Fierstein and Jennifer Hudson.

WHEN?

This Friday 29th May at 7pm for 48 hours only. Watch it live at 7pm on Friday along with tens of thousands others to make it a bit more special. Expect my review of it on Saturday.

WHERE?


WHAT?

The Young Vic production of the Tennesee Williams classic A Streetcar Named Desire was filmed on stage in 2014. Starring Gillian Anderson, it is an intense but ultimately gripping three hours of theatre which I would highly recommend watching.

WHEN?

Available right now but only for 2 more days as it will be taken offline on Thursday 28th May at 7pm

WHERE?


WHAT?

Written by James Graham, writer of the recent play turned into TV sensaion Quiz, this play is the story of a hung Parliament in 1974 and was filmed in 2013.

WHEN?

As soon as Streetcar goes offline, This House takes its place. Catch it for one week from Thursday 29th May at 7pm.

WHERE?


WHAT?

Kings of Broadway is an all star concert, paying tribute to the works of Jule Styne, Jerry Herman and Stephen Sondheim. Stars lined up to perform include Louise Dearman, Rob Houchen, Ramin Karimloo and Michael Xavier.

WHEN?

Available on Sunday 31st May from 7pm.

WHERE?

WHAT?

The Chichester Festival Theatre production of the story by David Walliams was filmed in 2018 and is available to view for free.

WHEN?

Available right now until Friday 29th May.

WHERE?


WHAT?

Concert special from Ben Platt, star of Pitch Perfect, The Book of Mormon and the original Evan Hansen. This was filmed at the iconic Radio City Music Hall in New York last year and features songs from his amazing debut album Sing To Me Instead. No songs from Dear Evan Hansen unfortunately but that doesn't stop this being an amazing 90 minutes.

Available now and it's not going anywhere

WHERE?

On Netflix.


WHAT?

Filmed on Broadway in 2016, this musical stars Lea Salonga, George Takei and Telly Leung and follows a family in the years following the attack on Pearl Harbor.

WHEN?

Available Friday 29th May at 7.30pm (US time so expect it in the UK 12.30am)

WHERE?

WHAT?

This series of performances from some of theatres finest has been keeping theatre lovers entertained during lockdown. It comes to an end this week with a finale performance from the incredible Beverley Knight who will has previously starred in The Bodyguard, Cats and the underrated Memphis.

WHEN?

WHERE?


WHAT?

The first in a new collaboration with Roundabout Theatre, this 2016 production of Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn was filmed at Sudio 54 and is being streamed on BroadwayHD.

WHEN?

The live stream Saturday 30th May at 8pm ET (1am in the UK) and will be available for just 48 hours afterwards.

WHAT?

One I haven't mentioned before, this was filmed at The Other Palace in 2018 and stars Zoe Birkett, Jodie Stelle and Jaymi Hensley

Available now with no end date.
